King Charles III ascended the throne on the death of his Mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on 8 September 2022.

A proclamation service took place in Bristol outside City Hall. A vehicle was borrowed from M Shed with newly commissioned side attachments. The design was based on previous proclamations. Comments about the appearance online included its likeness to ovaries, a giant moustache and a pantomime prop.

Most of the objects relating to King Charles in our collections are from his first wedding to Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. These include special edition crisps, a gingerbread biscuit, commemorative beer, a tea towel, badges, and car accessories.

The Empire & Commonwealth Collection includes gifts presented to Prince Charles from royal tours.
