The Bristol City Line of Steamships Ltd was a successful cargo fleet running ships from Bristol to New York, and later to most of the ports on the eastern seaboard of the USA and Canada. The ships carried a distinctive blue star flag and funnel marking, and all were named for cities in Britain, Canada and the USA.

The company developed from the 18th century shipping and shipbuilding company of James Hillhouse. In 1845 Charles Hill took over the Hillhouse company with a fleet of ships running to the Caribbean. He then concentrated on the Australia and India routes. He started the Bristol City Line in 1879, running a regular steamship service to New York, expanding to cover most of the eastern seaboard of North America. The company ended trading when it was bought out by the Bibby Line in 1972.
