The burial group from Tomb B122 is from a large cemetery at Abadiyah, excavated in 1898 CE by the Egypt Exploration Fund. It dates from the Predynastic period, 3,000 BCE or earlier.

There were 570 graves. Several of the tombs in this cemetery had been robbed, others were untouched. Some had two, three or more bodies buried in the grave. Many of the burials contained personal items such as pots, ivory objects, stone tools and jewellery. Some of the bodies were buried with no belongings.
