Silk leaf: printed (mezzotint) couple in central cartouche, possibly meeting at a masked ball. The man is wearing a domino and carrying a masque, the woman is in 18th century costume. Embellished with gold spangles. Painted gold trim around edge and painted berried laurel garlands on leaf. Ivory sticks and guards carved and pierced showing symbols of love - hearts, putti, doves. Pivot is metal and paste. English or French

In box frame. European Cream silk leaf with tamboured, painted and spangled decoration. Obverse painted in gouache with central cartouche of shepherd and sherherdess with bagpipes and basket near a river. Edged with gilt tambour work and spangles. On either side similar decoration of table with flowers. Border, ends and ground painted and gilded with scrolls. Carved and pierced ivory sticks and guards with silvered and spangled decoration. Paired sticks alternate pierced and gold pairs with sequinned pairs. Guards carved and gilded with urn and flowers and male figures.

Coloured silks on wool, blue-striped selvedges at sides, top and bottom hemmed. Cross, satin, Algerian eye stitches. Stylised floral meander border. Verse between two flower vases; centre section empty; floral meander; band of small motifs: trees, flowers, birds. Signed and dated in bottom band. Verse: 'In Books or Work or healthful Play Let my first Years be past That I may give for ev'ry Day Some good Account at last Just as the Tree cut down that fell To North or Southward there it lies So Man departs to Heav'n or Hell Fix'd in the State wherein he dies'

Carved ivory tusk ('olifant'). In two pieces, joined with ivory pegs. Carved all-over with boar-hunting scenes: men and women in 16th-century costume, some on horseback. Shaped leaf edge below leaf band; diagonal lines between two leaf ribbons over the join; band of lozenges below dog's head gripping the mouthpiece in his jaws. Two loops screwed into outer bands through which passes a red hanging cord. In arc-shaped leather case lined with blue velvet.
