a framed colour drawing on grey paper, showing: a half-length portrait in profile of Reverend Rowland Hill (1744-1833), the evangelical preacher, Calvinist in approach, who avidly preached all around the country; an early supporter of the Sunday School Movement, as a way of extending religious education to the children of the working class, he was an regarded as an eccentric and witty, larger-than-life figure; he also baptised Lord Winterstoke (William Henry Wills, 1830-1911), the philanthropic funder of the building of the Bristol Art Gallery, commenced in 1901, completed in 1904 and opened to the public in 1905 (which later became the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery)

a framed colour drawing on grey paper, showing: a half-length portrait of General William North (1755-1836), army officer and US politician; he entered the continental (revolutionary) army in 1775 and became a Second Lieutenant the following year, after which he rose through the ranks; he left active service in 1787 and settled in Duanesburg, near Schenectady, New York, where he embarked on a political career; in 1798 he was appointed Adjutant General of the army, a position he held for two years and one that carried the rank of Brigadier General
