European painted and printed folding fan. Paper lead engraved, coloured with roughly drawn pierced ground. Obverse of partially completed engraving with country woman at a spring in regency costume. Reverse of small engraving with three girls/women in costume of c1810 feeding chickens. Covered and pierced ivory sticks and guards. Sticks from three different fans, one group with neoclassical columns, another with rococo scrolls and animals. Guards carved and oiled with design of a gardener with squirrel. Pivot of ivory and metal.

European Moire silk fan. Moire silk leaf scattered with silver spangles and festoon border with shaped silver spangles. Reverse leaf of plain silk. Guards and sticks pierced and carved with stylised floral motifs, guards more elaborately so. Pivot and hanger of chrome.

White papered sides and a picture in colour on the lid showing a young child in a white dress with mauve waist sash, one hand extended towards a robin stand on the rim of a plant bowl. The picture has been varnished over. A label inside reads, "GOLD MEDAL, PARIS, 1878 J.S.FRY AND SONS, CHOCOLATE AND COCOA MANUFACTURERS. FRY'S COCOA EXTRACT RECOMMENDED, BRISTOL AND LONDON." There is a mauve lining paper. Hand written on the base is 1879, from Mrs AC Dring, 2 Windmill Road, Headington, Oxford.
