Knife with carved ivory handle and wooden & ivory sheath. Written on one side of the handle is; "From Richard Smith Surgeon 1836". On the ivory side of the handle is written; "The gift of Mr. Richard Smith Surgeon 1836". On the top of the handle is a carved elephant. 2 upright crocodiles stand underneath it. On the ivory side of the sheath are 2 horizontal crocodiles, facing towards each other.

Rectangular finger woven yellowish pouch, lined with coarse fabric like sacking; pattern of white seed beads sewn into the weave - simple zig-zag lines. Row of iron cones with dyed red hair tassels attached by things to lower edge. Cones or tassels also decorate the front - four pairs. Sides of bag have darker finger woven wool insets. Neck has a very faded pale blue ribbon binding edged with white seed beads. Stitched with thread.

The house is made on a wooden oblong base, the sides of the well are made by upright bamboo cabes bound together with 3 rows of fibre binding. The windows are at either end and a door on each side. The inside walls are lined with barkcloth which is decorated with a painted design. The roof is made of straw and slopes upwards towards centre.

Wooden handled knife with part of handle worn away. Handle is bound with plaited fibre in 2 places and also features black staining (resin? corrosion? charring?) that goes up the handle and onto the blade. Blade is very worn and thin. Blade undulates creating a shape like 2 waves.

Mostly red in colour with bands of yellow bounded in black. There is a terminal fringe of yellow and red strands (dry and brittle). The bag is made of fibre (straw grass of some kind) and woven in a zigzag formation. There are 3 bands of yellow (with black line for border). The middle band is of 4 squashed octagons (2 on each side) with a red stripe running through their middles. Upon the yellow is a stripe of black and then a further stripe of yellow. The above and below bands of yellow are the same. There are two halves of this octagonal shape on each side, 2 on top and 2 on bottom. These are bordered with a black stripe. At the bottom, beneath the band of yellow, is a base stripe of red. Above the top band of yellow is a thick band of red, which is then followed by the fringe.

Comb with 13 teeth and handle inlaid with mother-of-pearl decoration. Most of the handle and teeth are painted black. The teeth are mostly about the same size. Beneath their tips, further reinforcement is given by a thin stick tied on with fibre. The handle begins with a thin stick and then branches outwards creating a kind of narrow upside-down bell shape. Within this bell-shape are the inlaid pieces (18) of mother-of-pearl. All but two of these inlaid pieces are triangular (scalene or isosceles) and all have little notches in them. The top of the handle has a stick attached (also blackened) providing support to the teeth as they protrude from the handle. A twisted fibre strand, frayed at both ends, is tied to the handle

18 pieces of cane or wood (all approx. same size) attached to one long thin pieces which forms the handle. The "waist" is formed by the sticks being stuck together with resin (?) and then inlaid with a mother-of-pearl decoration on one side, 23 pieces of mother-ofpearl, all triangular and notched in several places. Up the middle they run in pairs, side by side, with other pieces slotted in between. At the end of this decorative area is a crossbar from which the teeth protrude. Most of the handle and teeth are stained black (black gum?). There is a thin twisted piece of twine attached to the handle, frayed at the ends.

Cane comb with long handle, 10 teeth and inlaid with 14 mother-of-pearl pieces on handle. Handle and teeth are stained black. The handle begins with a thin stick, and then wood upside-down triangle branches out. This triangle is covered with mother-of-pearl. All pieces are triangular and notched in several places, but only some of them are paired up making diamonds (10 for 5 diamonds). At the handle top is a thin stick attached from which the teeth protrude. Just below the tips of the teeth a length of cord weaves in and out, binding the teeth into place.

Large comb with 27 teeth and with one spoke lying across them. Handle consists of 2 sticks crossed at the top, merging into a large black triangle inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Handles and teeth are stained black. There are 30 pieces of shell, all triangular and notched. The handle wood has a bit of cross-hatching. There are 2 different patterns of shell decoration. At the handle top is a stick bound on and adding support (presumably) to the teeth protruding out the top of the handle. Just below the tips of most of the teeth lies another stick (unstained), bound on to hold the teeth in place.

Wooden model of a slave ship. Stands on 4 wooden legs. The metal lid is in 2 parts and the larger piece states "Wm. Wilberforce Esq [uire] to the House of Commons". Inside the ship are painted 451 horizontal slaves in lines. Different sections of the ship are labelled; "Boys Room", "Womens Room", "Cabin", "Girls Room", and 2 "Store Room"s. Long comb with 16 teeth, handle consists of 2 carved prongs, a small carved "neck" and a triangular part with 11 pieces of mother-of-pearl inlay, joining onto the toothed part. The 2 carved prongs are parallel and then join to create the short "neck". The neck goes straight up then branches out into a semi-circle shape, up straight a little, and then another semi-circle. Then the upside-down triangular section of the handle (stained black, like the teeth) begins. Within this section are inlaid 11 pieces of shell. All but three (which are a sand-timer octagonal shape) are hexagonal, but all are notched. At the handle top is a thin stick tied on and adding support for the teeth protruding from the handle. Just below the teeth tips a piece of cord is woven around and in between the teeth to add further support.

Comb, woven mat handle, handle is intricately patterned in red, yellow and black geometric designs. Point on end of handle, some teeth are missing (18 left) Wood stained black. The handle is ahped like an elongated sand-timer, but the lower triangular part is longer and narrower than the upper wider and shorter part. The lower section of the handle has zigzagging yellow and black lines, alternating. Then 3 bands, 2 bands encasing 1 red. Then the upper section is bordered in yellow. A background of black, with 2 red and yellow columns up the middle. At the handle top is a stick bound on with interweaving yellow and red strands. Then out stick the teeth.

Plain mat-headed comb, no colour, 12 teeth. The teeth/sticks narrow tapering down to a single point. They are held together by weaving fibre strands in a zigzag formation. This weave creates the mat-like handle. Below the tips of the teeth, their places are strengthened by interweaving piece of twine.
