Samples of plain sewing, worked mainly in pink thread on white cotton, stitched to 'pages' with bow trims: inside front 'cover' - blank; p.1 - tacking & hemming; small pink knitting; hemming; p. 3 - hemming; top sewing 2 pieces of fabric together; p.5 - sew-&-fel; seam; knitted ribbing; p.6 - plain darning with herringbone border; p.7 - sew-&-fell & tacked edges; knitting in the round; preparing a band and attaching a tape; p.9 - gathers stroked & fixed into a band; darned knitting; p.11 - patched flannel; shaped knitting;; p.12 - darned knitting; p.13 - strengthening a slit with tape; turning a heel; sewing a buttonhole and attaching a covered button; p.15 - 2 tucks and a hem; patch in printed cotton; p.17 - patch in plain cotton; run-&-fell join and buttonhole worked on a taked hem; p.19 - joining 2 pieces and inserting gusset; L-shaped twill darn; inside back 'cover' - darned diagonal cut. Printed instructions for the samplers have been cut out and stitched to the pages. A loose beige silk ribbon and bow probably originally covered the join of the 'pages'.
