Dish of porcelain with a folate rim of eight double lobes. Decorated in red, aubergine, black, pink, and gilt enamels on underglaze blue. Filling the plate is a design of red and white chrysanthum flowers with aubergine, green, and blue leaves. To the right, framed by a blue outline is a tall red and gold iris flower with aubergine and green leaves. In flight are three green and aubergine butterflies. At the top and bottom are two arrow-like designs with a leafy scroll in gold on blue and a half-circle containing a cherry-blossom flower in pink and gold on red. On the underside are three branches of plum in red and blue. Surrounding the footring are three circles in blue, and one within the footring on the base.

Dish of porcelain with a folate rim of eight barbed lobes with brown 'lip rouge' glaze (Japanese: fuchibeni ??) along the rim. Decorated in underglaze blue with a design of two deer in foreground beside two large rocks on which grow a Japanese banana plant and bush of flowers, and hills in the distance. The border is decorated with leafy branches with plum blossoms. The underside is decorated in underglaze blue with three bearded dragons punctuated by three precious jewels. On the base within a circle within the footring is a mark that reads: '???' enclosed in a square. There is a single spur mark left on the base. A note left by the collector, Irene Finch (1918-2019), reads: 'To Edinburgh. 17'.

Dish of porcelain with a folate rim of eight shallow barbed lobes and brown 'lip rouge' glaze (Japanese: fuchibeni 縁紅) along the rim. Decorated with red, green, black, aubergine, and yellow enamels on underglaze blue. In the centre is depicted a branch of red and white fruits (lychees? raspberries?) with green leaves. The surrounding border has been divided into eight panels with alternating designs of: green bamboo leaves on white; five white flowers on a stylised wave patterned background in blue; a red flower head with green leaves; a large white flower surrounded by four smaller white flowers on a blue crosshatched background. The underside is left blank. In a circle within the footring is a six-character mark in two lines that reads: 大明成化年製 (Japanese: taimin seika nensei) 'great Ming dynasty Chenghua period (1465-1487) make'. There are four spur-marks on the base.

Matches Finch 183. Dish of porcelain decorated with orange, red and gilt enamels on underglaze blue. In the centre is a design of an orange peony head surrounded by three sylised flames in blue. Surrounding this is a band of blue and gold boxes. The border is decorated with a band of tessellating leaf shapes in orange outline and gold centres. Along the rim are orange swirls on gold. The underside is decorated with a continuous scroll in blue with three red peony heads. Within the footring enclosed in a circle is a four-character mark arranged in a diamond that reads: ????(Japanese: Fuki Choshun), meaning ‘wealth, nobility, longevity, and youth’, also translated as ‘good fortune and long life’ or ‘weath and everlasting spring’. A note left by the collector, Irene Finch (1918-2019), reads: 'revival'.

Dish of porcelain in the shape of a double truncated ellipses, with brown 'lip rouge' glaze along rim (Japanese: fuchibeni 縁紅) and decorated in underglaze blue. Moulded in low relif are two dragons and two sacred wish-fulfilling jewels. In the centre is a design of two sweetfish with swirls and lines representing flowing water in underglaze blue. The underside is left plain and there is a low circular footring on the base. A previous break has been repaired with three rivets visible from the underside.

Dish of porcelain with a gilded folate rim of five barbed lobes. Decorated in red and gilt enamels on underglaze blue is the design of two small birds in blue and gold flying toward a broken stem of bamboo with a branch of red, gold and blue bamboo leaves. On the underside is a continuous scroll design in blue. In a large circle within the footring is a six-character mark in two lines that reads: ?????? (Chinese: Tai Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi, Japanese: Daimin seika nensei) 'Greatest [sic] Ming Chenghua make'. This is a common mark on Arita porcelain, where the extra dot in the first character changes the meaning from 'da' (great) to 'dai' (greatest). A note left by the collector, Irene Finch (1918-2019), reads: 'Late 18thC export via Dutch to Indonesia.'

In the centre is a design of an orange flower in red outline with pointed petals swirling in an anti-clockwise direction, enclosed by a band of blue petals. The border is decorated with a floral scroll with four open orange chrysanthemum flowers and eight orange buds with gold leaves. The rim is decorated with swirls alternating in orange and gold. On the underside along the rim is a lace-like pattern in blue. Surrounding the footring are blue petals. Within the footring is a four-character mark in two lines which reads: ???? (Chinese: Chenghua Nian Zhi, Japanese: sei ka nensei) 'Chenghua period make'. A note left by the collector, Irene Finch (1918-2019), reads: 'Gold over red. 94/72'.

porcelain dish, painted in under-glaze cobalt blue with central figures after Persian painting of the school of Riza-yi `Abbasi (active about 1598-1638) with borders containing mixed Chinese, Turkish and European baroque motifs; Chinese, for the Persian or Indian market; probably about1650.This piece resembles the typical 'kraak porselein' made for the cheaper domestic market and for export between about 1575 and 1675 but is almost unique in bearing Persian ornament.
