Round steel barrel, rifled, with a raised blade foresight and a calibrated and adjustable rear sight graduated to 2000 metres. Retained to the stock by 2 steel barrel bands, the rear band with an integral sling swivel, the forward band also forming the nose-cap and also with integral bayonet lug. Cleaning rod missing. Wooden three-quarter stock with separate hand-guard covering the top forward section of the barrel. The underside of the butt with a sling swivel and the right side with crudely carved signature P.J.VENTER (the initial P crossed through) together with 1 unidentified symbol. Steel butt plate and loop form trigger guard. Steel receiver with bolt action, the left side stamped Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken, Berlin, together with the serial number 3210

Engraved steel frame containing lock mechanism, the engraved trigger guard formed with a spur. Frame hinged to tip down barrel of breech loading. Barrel locked by 'trigger' type catch. Walnut chequered grip with an engraved butt cap.

Engraved flintlock of rounded form signed “W Staples”. Secured to the stock by 2 sidenails. With gunflints Perhaps intentional patination remains in interstices of brass.

The octagonal rifled barrel with raised blade sight, stamped along the top George Gibbs, Corn St. Bristol, the left side of the top strap stamped 'MARK III 38'. The frame containing the lock mechanism and with the barrel release catch on the left side. The left side of the frame stamped with Webley & Scott trade mark, the right side stamped 'Webley Patent' and the serial number 10056. The rear part of the frame forming a support for the grips. Loop shaped trigger and guard. 2-piece chequered wooden grips with central screw fixing and lanyard ring.

Wooden full stock with pentagonal form butt with hardwood butt plate inlaid with a brass motif, the whole stock profusely inlaid with small brass studs forming decorative patterns. The apertures of the trigger and sling holes the stock are inlaid with decorative bone plaques, the fore-stock with a bone muzzle cap. Stud or ball form trigger. Ramrod missing.
